Updated guidance on public spaces and exercise

Under new government guidance (1 June), you can now spend time outdoors, including private gardens and other outdoor spaces, in groups of up to six people from different households, following social distancing guidelines

To stay safe, you must:

·        keep at least two metres apart from anyone not from your household·        take hygiene precautions when you are outside, take hand sanitiser in case there are no handwashing facilities, and wash your hands as soon as you get home·        not go out if you have symptoms.

Read the full government guidance at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-on-accessing-green-spaces-safely

·        Before travelling: please check what facilities are available and plan accordingly, many are still closed for your safety.·        When out and about: please be considerate to other people and your local environment. Take your rubbish home to keep the area clean and safe.·        If you are visiting the Forest: follow the New Forest code to protect the Forest and the animals, and don’t light fires or BBQs anywhere in the Forest. https://www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/news/respect-and-care-for-the-new-forest/·        If you are visiting the coast: follow the beach safety advice from the RNLI https://rnli.org/safety/beach-safety

The Ordnance Survey has worked with Natural England to create a website that brings together current advice from government, councils, and other outdoor organisations, so people can decide where to go and what to do outside.

You can search by activity and location for suggestions and ideas about how to get outside safely. https://getoutside.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/covid/

Public toilets

We are opening our public toilet facilities when it is safe to do so for each individual site.

You can see which NFDC public toilets are open at https://newforest.gov.uk/coronavirusfacilities

Please follow the advice displayed at the public toilets to ensure social distancing and hygiene for your safety and that of others.

Safe dog walking advice

Our dog warden has given some advice on safe dog walking, including always using a lead and cleaning your hands.

Launch of Track and Trace system

Anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will be contacted within 24 hours by the NHS Test and Trace service by text, an email alert or a call and will be asked to share information about their recent interactions.

This could include household members, people with whom they have been in direct contact, or within 2 metres for more than 15 minutes.

Read an overview of the service, including what happens if someone tests positive for coronavirus or has had close contact with someone who has tested positive, and how to identify that contact from the service is genuine: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works
